After being off my feet for a year, I am going to get back up and exercise as I have put on a lot of weight. I just pigged out for the last year not caring what I was doing so that's what I am going to do.

I am in my 50s now but when I was in my 30s I was 10 stone which was ok and healthy but each year another 10 to 12 lbs extra so you are looking at just 1lb per month to gain nearly a stone in a year and wasting money on joining clubs etc. you are better to try to lose a lb to 2 lb a month just cutting down. what I am really saying is the weight did not go on in month so take it easy and lose 1 to 2lb a month and at the end of a year you are a stone down and it is healthier. Best of luck

hi all, im going to eat well and take up more exercise, have started and already feel great. got wii fit for xmas and its a great success. worried bout my 9 year old daughter as she is overweight so she is walking with me and the dog each night too, but she is unaware of my plans to help her lose weight as she is too young.

I am going to drink less alcohol. I have got to the stage now that i drink at least a bottle of wine a night during the week and at weekends at least 3 pints of beer/stout aswell as the bottle of wine a night. If I got it down to not drinking during the week I would be happy. Havent had an alcholic drink since last Saturday night and looking forward to a few on Saturday night this week.

Save yourself money and get thinner together.

Get a friend ,partner or significant other to join you and pay them €10 to weigh you, abuse you by telling you that you are a fat git, give you some low fat diet sheets, and tell you that you must lose x amount of fat by the same time next week.

Then reverse the procedure, take the €10 back, you tell them they are a fat git ete as above.

Save up all the €10s and buy yourself some nice new clothes when you achieve your desired weight.

You win both ways. Good luck!

I drink 2 or 3 glasses of wine every night which I feel is maybe a bit much. I stopped smoking 18 years ago, but I'm finding it more difficult to cut down on my drinking than it was to give up cigarettes!

Hi Folks,

It is clear there are a lot of us wanting to lose weight, I for one have about 6 stone to go, but that is the first and last time I will mention that number because it sounds as though it is an impossible amount to lose, not if you are taking it off at the same speed I put it on. So since New Year I have cut out by favourite two items from my diet, BREAD I love all kinds, I could stand in a bakery shop and live on bread. The other thing is, when I gave up smoking a year and a half ago I made the mistake of eating sweets every evening and before I knew it I was eating a large packet of chocolate eclairs! so there gone. I am going to see how I do. I hate going to these Clubs, being weighed and either patted on the head when I lost a half pound or made to feel guilty if I didn't, AND paying for the embarrassment.

Best of luck everybody.

A

That's 70% who want to exercise more or eat healthier. I'm in the same boat. I am going to loose the flab I put on over Christmas and the extra half a stone that needs to go. I lost weight last year but towards the end of the year my gym attendance tailed off so I am going to be more consistent about this time round. For those wishing to lose weight - remember fad diets aren't something you can stick to for life. A loss of about 1 to 2 lbs or 1kg per week is healthy. More than that and you could start to loose lean muscle

I am going to go back to the size ten I once was, and save enough money to get proper veterinary treatment for my little dog who unfortunately does not have pet insurance! I also want to focus more on being happy, rather than believing that I will only be happy by making OTHERS happy. Cheers. XX

Lou,

Have you checked out the Blue Cross, they have a mobile surgery they may take care of your pet, I love animals. Give them a call.

Anne

Hi Anne its funny you should mention them I actually do a lot of work for them. Unfortunately the treatment that my dog requires can only be found in the UCD hospital, and the Blue Cross no longer do referrals to them, since they changed their administrator a while back. My parents have said they will help out aswell so between all of us we should be able to help our darling little mongrel :) Its sad that her condition is so debilitating, as she is still so young in her heart, and sometimes doesnt realise her own limitations. Its my responsibility as her "mammy" to reduce these limitations as much as I can. Anyway enough of my rambling! Thanks for the advice xx

Hi All A few if you were chatting about the wine, beer etc I stopped drinking last January and said nothing to anyone, I find when you say anything you get slagged and puts more pressure on you. I read Alan Carr's book on giving up the drink (not Alan the comedian, he is so funny) but I found it great and never drank since and dont miss it and it was a quick year. I would drink a bottle of wine and think nothing of it. Since I stopped I feel more positive mind you did not lose a lot of weight because I replaced drinking with eating ice cream ah well could be worse but if anyone wants to stop drinking it is a great book and well worth the read if you are worried about drinking because the advantages weight loss, more money in your pocket, more positive and energetic and more interests, as they say alcohol is pure poison. Good Luck and Happy New Year

Phyl - thanks for that. I bought Alan Carr's book today, mind you it has taken me practically 2 weeks to do it since your message.
