Design team appointed for new kids' hospital
The development board established to build the new national children's hospital at the Mater site has today announced that Murray O’Laoire/Brian O’Connell/NBBJ consortium has been selected as the designers for the new hospital.
The development board’s remit is to plan, design, build, furnish and equip the new Children’s Hospital of Ireland in accordance with the brief to be endorsed by the HSE.
Today’s announcement is a key milestone in the development of the new children's hospital, said Eilísh Hardiman, CEO of the project to build the children's hospital.
The consortium of architects appointed has extensive collective collective experience in designing children’s hospitals, according to Ms Hardiman.
According to the development board, subject to planning permission, building will commence in 2010 and it is expected that construction will be finished by the end of 2013.
The planned ambulatory and urgent care centre at Tallaght will open in 2013, according to the designers. This will be in operation at Tallaght after its children's hospital services move to the Mater.
Following fit out and commissioning, the new hospital at the Mater should be up and running by the end of 2014, according to the development board.
