It never bothered me until 6 weeks ago when I fired a shotgun without my plugs. Since then it has caused me great distress, often feeling there is no hope and leading to very dark thoughts. My ENT recommends TRT, he claims it has had very good success. THe fact that I had T before and it didn't bother me leads me to believe that TRT will work for me. I would like all the advice you can give me please. If possible, please email me on blipsandbleeps [at] gmail.com . Your help is very much appreciated. Phil

Have taken Seanmac's advice and started the B12 with magnesium and hoping for results soon. What I woundn't give for some peace and quiet. I live near the sea and I find walks on the beach are great as the sound is drowned out by the ocean. Zuppy

However be advised that you have to stay with it, as improvements sometimes are not evident for up to 3 months. Good luck with it folks. John

Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 4 # 235 Posted: 22/09/2009 12:01 Hi all, Just in relation to the comments on taking vitamin B12, I myself find taking the vitamin very helpful for my Tinnitus. I firmly believe that my Tinnitus is stress related and can persist even in times when I think I'm not stressed. When Tinnitus is particularly bothering me I feel my ear is pulsating and the nerves in my ear are about to explode. It makes sense then to take B12 as this is essential for the nervous system. However I take vitamin B12 combined with Magnesium for maximum effect. Magnesium protects the nerves in the inner ear. It regulates the sound waves in the ear, if someone is deficient in Magnesium this leads to irregular sound waves in the ear and hence can cause Tinnitus. I have been taking B12 combined with Magnesium for a few wks now and I have to say I have had no buzzing at all in my ear for the first time in two years. I have the odd day where i can hear it again but these few wks have been brilliant. I can only put it down to taking these vitamins as nothing else in my life has changed over the last few weeks. Hope this may be of help to someone else. Even if it doesn't work, as time goes by you DO learn to cope with this infliction. The frustration eases and you realise you could be worse off with some other serious illness, the less you care about it the less it bothers you. For new sufferers I know that sounds impossible but believe me you'll begin to feel the same way and become a happier person.

You must try to find out the exact cause, it may be from Allergy, loud noise, low Hb, any adverse effect of a drug. Take B12 and try acupuncture, excursive daily. I am having Tinnitus, and I am a frequent air traveler. Any body to discuss further on TINNITUS & AIR TRAVEL? Please comment.

I believe I have had tinnitus from a longhall flight I took from Miami to London 10 years ago. I have taken many longhall flights but this one messed up my hearihg. My poor mom who is 71 years old tells me that her sleeping is now not good as the noise is so bad. I see some people here talking about B12 so I will let my mom know and we will both try it. It wasn't so bad but I have since been in bars/clubs with loud music and now the noise in my ears is horribly loud.... I was at the GP who gave me a letter for an ENT specialist...is there any specialist in particular that anyone can recommend? I'm quite distressed over this as it has started to affect my sleep. I'm really worried that I am stuck with this for the rest of my life.... I'd appreciate any assistance, Thanks, PG

It's Sunday morning and I have been awake since 6.30! I have had ears syringed and am awaiting audio testing. The sound is deafining! My daughter's wedding is next week and I am dreading the noise, one feels so disconected and in a world of their own. Mostly people are sympthatetic but they have no idea how it feels. Wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. Unfortunately I smoke and from your discussion page I get the impression this is not helping? I hope to have accupunture this week, does anyone find this beneficial? would love to know.

Make sure you get the pure B12, as some times it is sold combined with other prosucts. I started taking one, three times a day with meals, and after a week reduced it to one a day. It took about 3 months for the problem to go. I thought it was returning some time ago, and resumed Vitamin B12, and it stayed away. Anyhow it worked for me, and I had severe tinnitus in my right ear. It was so bad that I had trouble sleeping. Try it if you like, and good luck. Regards, John

I was sceptical, but desperate, but to my surprise the tinnitus left, and has not returned. I hope that might help somebody, John

Unfortunately the area I live in does not have Broadband and I can only access the internet from work so there might be a delay in my reply. I would like to know how I can contact you. I am having a really good time with my T lately - there is definitely a lot to be said about keeping busy. At night I have started to use a sound machine so I don't really hear my tinnitus at all anymore. Don't let people's negativity get you down - I had a lot of that when I first got this. Always stay positive and strong. To eli, Thanks a million for your invite - Wexford is a bit far as I have the baby but thanks a million. Dal

Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2 # 216 Posted: 09/08/2009 17:16 Hi everyone I'm 26 and have loud tinnitus in both ears for as long as i can remember. I have no idea when it started but it's probably a genetic condition as a member of my immediate family is very deaf although he never had tinnitus himself. I have such worries that the tinnitus is a warning sign that I'm going to go deaf...what would I do if that happened?? I'm studying to be a psychologist and for obvious reasons I need to be able to rely on my ears. I attend the eye and ear hospital about once a year although the last time I went they tried not to give me another appointment as I was told "what can we do for you?". A doctor there recently commented that my ears are "sick". What I don't understand is that although I have some hearing loss in both ears that my hearing tests have remained the same for the past 4/5 years i.e. my hearing hasn't got worse. Although it certainly feels like it has. How then can a doctor tell me that my ears are sick??? It's that sort of unprofessionalism that really gets my goat up. Let me live with the absolute wonder of knowing that my hearing is stable, (although my tinnitus is not) that I am not going deaf in my mid-twenties. Why turn something positive into something so awfully negative??? Yes i have hearing loss, but it's not getting worse! Is it not possible to assume that i was born with the hearing loss?? which is not impossible given the genetic link. And as for wanting to keep my yearly appointments what's wrong for wanting a little bit of stability and support for the tinnitus that has nowhere else to go??? To Dal, I would be interested in hearing from you regarding setting up a tinnitus support group perhaps in the Maynooth area???

Joined: Jul 2009 Posts: 3 # 214 Posted: 13/07/2009 15:33 Hi all, I am 33 and living with tinnitus since April 2007. I was very down when I first got this and was on anti-depressants and sleeping tablets and Xanax among many. Things got worse when I got it in both ears and I was unconsolable. In January 2008 I discovered I was pregnant but I still focused daily on my tinnitus. Everything changed when I had my beautiful baby boy on the 10th of October 2008. For a start I don't get to think about it as much and when I do I just switch to thinking about my son. When I go to bed I generally fall asleep very fast!! Thats not to say that it still doesn't bother me, it does but now I don't listen to it. For those of you suffering at this time stay strong, it may seem like a long road but you will make it, for those of you who have learned to live with this I salute you. By the way I have a sister who has this and she doesn't even notice it now.

I think it developed after numerous ear infections which i put down to a poor immune system due to the fact i was allergy to dairy products. When i cut out dairy at 14 years of age i got less infections. Although i still have tinnitus and i have got used to it and don't really notice it anymore i bet if i was still on dairy i would be far worse. I had an IGE and VEGA test that showed i was allergy to dairy.

Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 4 # 212 Posted: 22/06/2009 02:46 This may sound silly and I am hesitant to even mention it but my kids left a handful of raisins on their plate a week or so ago. Rather than throw them out, I scooped them up and the next day my tinnitus (which is rather quiet already after 18 months in just one ear, cause unknown) went really quiet. As I reflected the next day on why that might be, I remembered the raisins. We ran out and my tinnitus seemed to get a little louder. This morning we got more and I had a handful and now it really seems quieter. I have tried grape seed extract in the past without any noticeable difference (except a lighter wallet!) These are just cheap seedless raisins. Given how cheap raisins are, I figured it may be worth posting incase it helped someone else. Could it just be a placebo effect??? Wex, what kind of treatment did you get? I had a sudden onset of tinnitus in my right ear about 18 months ago. It almost drove me mad but over time has become quiet manageable so that I only think about it a couple of times a day (as opposed to all the time). Saw a specialist but he just told me to live with it as there was not anything they could do - would love to know what you were told. All the best and hang in there!
