Obesity expert to visit Dublin

[Posted: Sat 08/03/2008]

A world expert on obesity is to give a seminar on weight management in Dublin later this month.

Currently in Ireland, 39% of adults are overweight and 18% are obese.

Dr Maurice Larocque is an international speaker on obesity issues and is founder of Motivation Weight Management Clinics, which are located throughout the world.

Having conducted over 30 years of research in the field of weight and obesity, he has developed a concept which he refers to as ‘mental weight’. This refers to a person’s behaviour and attitudes in relation to their weight problems.

“Food is not the problem. If food was the problem, diets would be the answer. Following a diet without a good behaviour modification programme is pointless and a total waste of time and money. I often say it is like taking aspirin for a toothache, you only get short-term results. The treatment of ‘mental weight’ is the core issue”, Dr Larocque said.

The Dublin seminar will give those attending an insight into ‘mental weight’ and will also look at how to approach weight management and ensure success as part of a weight management programme.

It will take place in Sandyford in Dublin on Saturday, March 29 at 11am. Places are limited and registration is necessary to attend. To register your interest, email rsvpmotivation@procomm.ie
