irishhealth.com is Ireland's independent health website, designed to offer users a comprehensive yet easy to use online source of medical and healthcare information and up-to-the-minute health news. We have details on hundreds of common conditions, as well as resources, tools, links and online user discussion channels, all written and developed in Ireland for Irish users. The site, with over 100,000 registered members, is Ireland's most visited health website and was ranked in the world's top 10 'Health - News & Media' websites* (*Source: Alexa.com, September 2006).
The principal promoters of irishhealth.com are the MedMedia Group, a Dublin-based specialist healthcare publishing company with 15 years experience in producing high quality information and communications for healthcare professionals and the general public.
MedMedia has long-standing formal links with medical and healthcare bodies such as the Irish College of General Practitioners, the Irish Nurses Organisation and the Diabetes Federation of Ireland in the publishing and communications fields.
Investment funding for the creation, development and hosting of the site was provided exclusively by the MedMedia Group and its directors. The site was devised, designed and built in-house by MedMediaNet, the wholly-owned web specialist subsidiary of MedMedia Group.
Advertising and sponsorship are the sources of revenue for the site. Banner advertising is accepted on the homepage and sections and is clearly identified as such, as it appears in a pre-designated format and position throughout the site.
Where an item such as a clinic has been sponsored, the sponsoring company and the fact that it is a sponsored area is clearly identified.
Our policy is that advertising and promotional material on this site is clearly differentiated from the site content.
Articles on the site have been reviewed by our panel of healthcare professionals (see below for full list). The medical content has been developed in Ireland by medical writers in conjunction with medical professionals. Our news and features service is produced by a team of experienced medical journalists.
In relation to the section on complementary medicine, our aim is to cover a broad range of topics and due care is taken to commission material from a reputable source. However, in some of these areas there are no national registration or academic bodies and few practitioners in this country. Visitors to the site should be aware of this.
